The Snow's Hurting My Pocket Man...

I've been having a nice time heading out and getting all mesmerized by the snow, it's like walking into a white town or something. Everything is just so pretty and magical. Is it me or what but I think Istanbul looks more beautiful and charming when it's all snowy. Maybe cos snow is pretty new to me and I'm still like an awestruck child right now.

Now moving on... being an ESL teacher certainly doesn't pay much. It's almost pathetic but the true beauty of it is to experience life overseas. I must admit I'm kinda struggling here. Gone were the days when I shop like there's no tomorrow and dine at any place I desire according to my craving that second. It's all about budgeting now and honestly, it gets downright miserable at times!!! Grrrrrrrr...!!

I work for 2 different schools on a part time basis and on a wage instead of a salary. No class = no $$. With this freezing cold weather where the city's practically drowned with snow, classes are cancelled and I find myself worrying and worrying and worrying. I don't even turn on the main heaters at home, just dependent on an small electric heater merely a metre away from me as I shiver in the cold. I wear layers and layers of clothing to keep me warm so much so that I feel like I'm carrying few kilos on my skinny frame.

My next post, I'll shed some light on the dirty of the language school systems here. It's a dog eat dog world but in the end, I think the ones suffering most are the students. The ESL teachers come next. Even education isn't as simple as how it should be. Till then, have a nice one!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow...

I woke up today feeling crap, just after 3.5 hours of sleep. Lesson preparations took alot of my time last night and those who said being a teacher is easy-peasy, let me tell you - IT IS NOT. Like I told my students, we don't just pop in the class with the lesson topic suddenly flashing in our head. I wish that's the case but clearly not. We spent hours preparing for a single class, right from lesson planning to thinking of innovative ways trying to educate students who most of the time are stifling their yawns.

I guess God heard me cos next thing I knew, as I was about to step out of the house, I received a call from the principal telling me classes has been cancelled due to electricity failure! *big grin*

Snow is just getting heavier and guess what - THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'M SEEING SNOW! Well, as you know, we don't have 4 seasons in Singapore thus this is quite a treat! Though I'm indeed freezing my ass off as I'm blogging right now, the sight that greets me through my window makes it all worth it. Specks of snowflakes fall prettily from the sky and wow, it looks exactly like those Xmas scenes from TV! I never thought it'll be THIS beautiful! Strangely, I always think those pretty snow scenes on TV had been modified or created somehow for the ultimate effect but hey, nature is apparently this breathtaking!

I will include pics soon once I padded myself up and leave the house to roam around the streets with snow falling on my face.
Hope your day is beautiful as well! Enjoy!

LIFE isn't all as it's PLANNED

My name is Macy. When I was young, my aspired career range from being a model to an immigration officer to a teacher.

The thoughts of modelling just perished when I reached puberty and I discovered the world of ... ACNE. I could be a walking acne exhibit - I have the whole series and collection to 'boast' about. Now, things got a little better. You could call me an upclose and personal exhibit of the 'moon face'. Also known as crater face. Yes - Life isn't all as it's Planned.

I have no idea why I would wanna be an immigration officer though. All I could remember is I love stamping hard on random pieces of paper. That was basically it.

Instead I worked in the creative industry for years. I have the creative streak in me but yes the hours put in, the crazy fucking deadlines put a toll on me as I asked myself over and over again - What is life? Staying overnight and stressing out about deadlines every single day?

Which leads to a funny direction I'm in now - an ESL teacher. Truth be told, when I got out of college, I never wanted to be a teacher. That was a childhood dream but yes, what do children know? You see your teacher appearing all powerful and superior in class and you just wanna be one of them.

I'll be the first to admit- I don't have perfect English as you guys probably can tell. Like most ESL teacher, I dare say, I became one of the statistics cos of my desire to travel and to venture out of my country, the sunny Singapore. I found myself in Istanbul, Turkey and now, blogging away in this cold, rainy winter. Winter + rain is the perfect formula for depression. That's when it striked me - BLOGGING. You'll hear more from me.
